Collaborations with Community Agencies
LCCU has developed critical community partnerships to maintain its delivery mechanism. LCCU has built up a tremendous amount of trust within the Latino community through its reputation as a community-based, member-controlled institution and through its partnerships with community based organizations.
As one of the fastest growing populations in the United States, North Carolina Latinos have created a number of effective groups involved in providing grass-roots organizing, advocacy, legal services, health, education, and other services often needed by immigrant Latinos. As a result, LCCU coordinates much of its service delivery with local non-profits serving Latinos.
LCCU has partnerships with organizations in each of its North Carolina branches, which have been essential in member outreach, especially as new branches have opened.
In Durham LCCU partners with El Centro Hispano, which originally helped to organize the credit union and is across the hall from the credit union’s Durham branch.
LCCU works in Charlotte with Centro Católico Hispano, the largest Latino congregation and ministry in Mecklenburg County.
In Raleigh, local partners include the Mexican Consulate, which serves thousands of Mexican immigrants across the state, the Catholic Diocese, and the Hispanic Family Center, run by Catholic Charities.
LCCU’s community partnerships with Latino, religious, immigrant, and social justice organizations in the area result in an extraordinary word-of-mouth effect, contributing greatly to LCCU’s incredible member growth and product utilization.
