Latino Community Credit Union’s members are primarily low-income and/or Latino individuals in North Carolina. LCCU’s members are 95% low-income, 95% Hispanic and 75% unbanked. LCCU has members from all 18 Spanish-speaking nations in Latin America, most notably Mexico, Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras and Colombia.
Because its services are tailored to new immigrants, LCCU also has significant member groups from non-Spanish, non-Latino countries in Asia, Africa and Europe.
North Carolina has one of the fastest growing Latino populations in the country. According to a 2005 report by the Kenan-Flagler School of Business at the University of North Carolina, over 600,000 Latinos live in North Carolina, accounting for seven percent of the state’s population, compared to 22,000 in 1990.
